Description
Exclusive to Raggedys by Diane, each Camel with the Wrinkled Knees is handmade with love and care. The hand painted facial features and meticulously sewn accessories are just a couple of the many special touches that capture the character of the charming Camel with the Wrinkled Knees from days gone by.
Inspired by the 1941 Raggedy Ann & Raggedy Andy cartoon and the McLoughlin Bros. release of “The Camel with the Wrinkled Knees” along with the 1941 McCalls’ Pattern 914; tan fleece is chosen for the body, with red fabric feet, a red bridle, yellow blanket trimmed with red and turquoise ribbon. His facial features are hand painted and his “googly” eyes are buttons.
Doll measures approx. 12″ tall.
Camel with the Wrinkled Knees is custom made when ordered and usually ships within 4-6 weeks.
Doll pictured is not the same doll you will receive. Material used will vary slightly depending on availability of supplies.

Gruelle first introduced his Camel with the Wrinkled Knees character in the book “Raggedy Ann and Andy and the Camel With the Wrinkled Knees”. First copyright 1924 and showing a white camel.
In 1941 Georgene Novelties began producing the first commercial doll patterned after Gruelle’s camel. His release coincided with the 1941 Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy cartoon and the McLoughlin Bros. release of “The Camel with the Wrinkled Knees”. He is made from felted tan cloth, with red fabric feet, a red bridle, yellow blanket trimmed with red and turquoise strips. His “googly” eyes were celluloid (other features were printed on).
The Camel with the Wrinkled Knees is also the basic storyline for Raggedy Ann & Andy ~ A Musical Adventure, an animated musical cartoon produced in 1977. Following the release of the movie, Knickerbocker came out with it’s “Blue” Camel w/Wrinkled Knees.
I have created the original Camel doll from the 1941 McCalls’ pattern 914.
